“No one comes in unless I invite them in.”

- that Catholic priest! Yikes.
- Magnus Hanso.
- still don’t understand how the black rock got so far inland.
- or how that boat busted up that huge statue but wasn’t in smithereens itself.
- did anyone slow down the scene with the smoke “judging” Richard like it once did Eko? Were there images in the flashing like with him the first time he encountered the smoke?
- so much Bible stuff in this episode.
- from Lostpedia: There is a legend in the Canary Islands which tells that there exists an eighth island called “Isla de San Borondón” (St. Brendan Island). That island has allegedly been seen several times in the Islands’ history, and there are even some ancient maps where the eighth island is drawn. Stories about the mysterious island have been told by sailors who say they landed in its beaches.

hmm, I was expecting “we’re in hell”.
is it normal catholic practice for priests to not absolve people for murder, or was that priest just being mean/scary?
the evil doctor who just wants money. good grief.
I’m not sure what we’re supposed to conclude about whether or not everyone’s actually dead, and whether or not they’re actually in hell/on the cork in the wine bottle of hades.
so jacob and blackshirt are engaged in an eternal miltonian debate about whether humans are good or evil. jacob argues that people can choose to be good, and keeps bringing people to the island to prove his point. (anyone else thinking of the book of job?) but he won’t intervene, himself; wants people to choose on their own. blackshirt argues that there’s no need to keep the cork in the bottle because humans are evil anyway.
…the adam and eve couple. they ARE adam and eve.

Jacob is coming off more and more like a real jerk. Just bringing people to the Island in order to prove someone wrong.
That episode played like a movie. Very engrossing. I finally loved an episode from this season! I thought that about them being Adam and Eve too, Adrian.
Only 7 episodes left!

If they’re actually in hell would the writers give it up this early? I don’t think they would.

well, the writers like messing with us. revealing what the island *actually* is would work because they know we’ll think that only a great fool would reach for the wine goblet he was given–wait. but anyway, they *do* have to start answering questions at some point, and they can’t just make the last episode a tell-all interview. I do think that revealing that the island is the cork in the hell-bottle is something they could do right now, because it would provide a provocative backdrop for the last few episodes to answer the cloud of questions *surrounding* the actual nature of the island in a suspenseful manner.
then again, after that hamfisted scene with the doctor, maybe I shouldn’t give the writers so much credit.
blerg, I’ve had a few, don’t pay me any mind.
kelly, I agree; jacob is seeming more and more manipulative. and if he is meant to represent god, or god’s agent, that’s an intriguing way to play it. a challenging alternative interpretation of an old story, like that book that tells beowulf from grendel’s point of view.

Did you ever think that the line, “No one comes in unless I invite them in…” means more than the statue? I think he’s saying no one can come to the island without his initiating an invitation. Pretty interesting.

Jenny I’m here! Okay and it kind of makes my day that you said that. I’ve had some sporadic internet access unfortunately.
<3 this episode. I feel like it actually cleared up a lot over the six seasons… just thinking about different conversations about good/evil, the stuff people have seen that was definitely the smoke monster, etc. Benny– definitely agree.
7 episodes… I can't handle that information.
