Two LOST things
November 1st, 20061.) I just found out that the baby that plays (an) Aaron is the grandson of the woman who got my friend Maggie her current job in Portland. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But the Love Actually – esque scene with Jack reading the cards…. wait, am I thinking of the right movie? Anyway, that was gold. I don’t like Ben anymore. I’ve been on the fence since he shook the rabbit, but now he’s on my shit list. Of course, this could change next week, which is IT FOR THE FALL AND I DIDN’T KNOW THIS. ugh.

um.
this is like the ending of “the order of the pheonix” all over again. what’s next, they’re gonna drown aaron? kill puppies and feed them to picket?
not even muppets christ superstar can cheer me up after this one.

jana, i was crying profusely into my blanket, certain that you were doing the same. what are we going to do????
did you find it a bit disconcerting how there were suddenly some NEW old people introduced into the episode? i didn’t like it.

If you haven’t watched it yet, don’t read this.
If Juliet wants Ben to die so badly why not just convince Jack to not do the surgery at all? Whaddya think of Eko’s non-confession confession? Who had nightmares involving eyepatches?

Don’t read if ya haven’t watched:
Jenn, I agree!! I think they’re testing him to see if he is one of the “good ones,” perhaps see whether or not he would kill someone.
Em, I sat under my fleece, clutched my stuffed ewok, Wickett (that’s right folks, I watch ‘Lost’ with a stuffed ewok. ya got a problem?), obviously crying and thinking the same thing. This is AWFUL. The new people are goons and that girl’s eyebrows would NOT be that perfectly sculpted after 71 days on an island. J.J. and Damien better give us something to make up for this, like the ghost of Eko comes back and declares himself king of the island.

this confirms my suspicions that the monster was also the black horse. I didn’t like eko so I don’t see what all the fuss is about. :)
the new people…shame on the writers for pushing them so clumsily. “oh, we want to have these two new characters, so we’ll just pretend they were there all along and now they want to be more included and we’ll linger on them with the camera and everything!” one of the great things about this show is how natural most of it feels, but that just screamed “contrivance!”
so if the monster is a cloud of black smoke…why did it show itself to locke as a bright light?

SPOILER HERE:
okay, i still don’t know about the black smoke monster. if you watch eko’s first encounter back in season two and put it in slow motion, you successively see images from his life, ending with a crucifix, flashing around in the smoke. they all seemed to be people he’d hurt. but the smoke didn’t get him that time. did he die because of his non-confession confession? was the smoke waiting to see if he’d repent, and when he didn’t it was like “alright then, you’re dead”? i don’t know.
i’m really unnerved by his non-confession. it wasn’t really like him…. or like the him i THOUGHT i knew & loved so well :)
maybe locke saw it as a bright light because once he had the opportunity to kill a man and did not.

I know it’s not a very Christian thing to say (especially for someone who just got married in the Catholic church) but I kind of agreed with Eko in his non-confession confession. He got a pretty raw deal. He made a choice as a child to save his brother (not himself) by killing someone else. He made what he made with what he had handed to him. He felt really badly for killing the 2 others when he was on the other side of the island. He didn’t speak for 40 days, he apologized to Benry, he wanted to build the church. How much forgiveness does he need to ask for?
hrmph.

i totally agree. i don’t think he SHOULD have “repented” for anything. i don’t think anyone should be expected to confess anything to any person, period. not just on lost. but all of that paired with his “you don’t know who i am” comment right before he put the machete to that guy’s skull…. it made me a little uneasy.
did we ever find out WHY he was building the church, exactly? are we to now assume that it has to do with that woman saying “you owe yemi a church?”
i laughed really hard at “benry”. i still don’t know what i think of all of this spinal tumor stuff.
one night i asked mikey if the eko-baptizing-claire-and-aaron situation were to really happen… where the person believed in the baptism even though the bap-tizer didn’t really have The Power, is it real? he couldn’t answer me.

well, I think the smoke is the island, plain and simple. I bet it was a bright light for locke because the island likes him. …but then why did it try to drag him down that hole? was he correct when he said it wouldn’t hurt him?
it seems to have complete insight into everyone’s memories and psyches; it uses that insight to confront and judge them. it seems to be a supernatural phenomenon. and yet it makes that vaguely mechanical sound when it flits around…dammit!
it’s times like these when I wonder “do the writers even know what it is, or are they planning to come up with an explanation for it later?”
I miss the days when people would just be standing around in the jungle and trees would suddenly start leaping out of the ground. I always got a kick out of that. :)

Eko’s non-confession was fulfilling to me, but his death was awfully brutal. The NEW old survivors bug the hell out of me. Are they introducing us to them so they can let go of Jack, Kate and Sawyer? Me no likey.
